The little prince

I’m so excited to finally be able to share this collab I did with David Sourwine. He normally paints crazy awesome fantasy creatures, but he is one of those people that can draw in any style. So thrilled he had time so we could do this piece.

Trollhunter pt01

I’ve been trying to catch up with Trollhunters this weekend. The studio I’m working for did some of the storyboards for it and it’s so cool to see the finished animation for what once used to be only boards. If you haven’t checked out the show please do, it’s really cool!!
I still have a few episodes left to watch, but couldn’t resist to do some drawings for it. The armor has so many lines O.o

Also if you didn’t know, the designs were done by the amazing “Headless Studio” which you can see HERE, HERE and HERE.

I have a feeling I will be geeking out a lot more about this show ^^

Inspiration

A lot of my coworkers are using pinterest to inspire their day to day drawings and one artist that keeps coming up is Grace Liu! Her art is incredibly inspiring and has made me want to push my poses and incorporate foreshortening more into my drawings.

This is one of the drawings that came out of warm up sketches I’ve been doing on my own time.

I did a spur of the moment drawing trip this weekend. It was really short, but got to see this girl that had the most adorable hair style.

I was working on a wonderwoman print for Toronto’s Fanexpo this weekend and thought it might be fun to share the process the drawing has gone through so far. This is from initial ruff a mock up colour.

Card Captor Sakura - pt 02

This is the final drawing for the Card Captor Sakura print.

Sakura is going to have cherry blossoms floating around her, and Syaoran is holding one of the blossoms.

Figuring out a hand pose for him turned out to be really difficult. In the end I took pictures of my own hands and that helped so much! Yay for reference ^^

Card Captor Sakura - pt01

I’m super excited to tell you guys! I just got the confirmation that my friend Chris and I will have a table at Fan-expo Toronto. It’s my first time tabling and my stomach is full of excited butterflies ^^.

This is part of a Card Captor Sakura print I’m working on. Will share more once the rest gets finished.

Sadie

We had a super sweet guest come to the studio today. Her name is Sadie and she’s an aspiring story artist.

Being 13, it must have been really intimidating having the attention of so many artists. I know when I was young, visiting an animation studio would have been a dream come true. Alas if it would have occurred, I would have been so shy that I could not have spoken to anyone.

I can’t wait to see the stories Sadie will do =D. Everyone at work made a drawing for Sadie. These ones are mine :)

Self Portrait

It was raining all day yesterday, a perfect day for drawing! Tried to push my drawing style a bit this weekend. I used Kyle T Websters Mega Brush set for the drawing and the painting. The brush that gave most of the texture in the painting was called “Gouache Bonus Gritty Dry”.

Also a big thanks to Katherine for teaching me about clipping masks!

Weddings

I’m unable to make it to a friends wedding this summer, so I did a painting for him and his fiancée :)

Making new friends

While in a line-up at TCAF this weekend I got to meet a father and son that were waiting to have a book signed by Svetlana Chmakova. I felt so lucky to be in line next to them. They were so genuine and nice and we soon got into conversations about books and movies.

When I mentioned that I had the pleasure of working on “The Little Prince”, they told me how much they loved it. The son’s face especially light up so much and I can’t truly describe the joy at seeing something that I was a part of touch someone so genuinely. Meeting them was something really special that has had me smiling for days. As a thank you, I sent them this drawing.

I wasn’t really happy with the last drawing that I posted, so I thought I’d take another crack at it and push the design a bit further. This is a really ruff pass and the pose is a bit static, but I already like the feel of it so much more.

Drawing from Books

I’ve been wanting to draw characters from a book for a while, but haven’t had the time until last weekend. I was listening to the Twilight series and  was struck by how well the secondary characters were described . Especially fascinating was that each character died in a different time period which could influence their design subtly. The experience was so much fun that it makes me want to do “The Name of the Wind” next, or maybe “The Power of One”. Let’s see where my fancy will take me the next time  :)
